Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
