Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
